Relocation Tips for Military Personnel and their Families

November 2025

King Relocation & Logistics is a proud supporter of the U.S. Armed Forces, and would like to thank our military families for the sacrifices they make each day to protect our freedom.

Among the many challenges military personnel and their families face during their time spent serving our country is Permanent Changes of Station, or PCS. These often frequent and repeated relocations can be emotionally and physically challenging, not to mention stressful for parents, children, and even pets. Add to that global conflict and economic uncertainties and the PCS becomes a difficult time for even the most seasoned military personnel and their families.

King Relocation & Logistics is here to help reduce some of this stress with relocation solutions tailored to meet the needs of military families. Having moved thousands of military families over the years, we are experts at navigating both the stress and uncertainty of PCS moves, along with all of the rules and regulations concerning PCS orders.

For example, we know that there are different allowances for an overseas PCS order versus a domestic PCS order. And, if temporary duty while in route, etc. is assigned, the reimbursement or allowable expenses for the move can change. We also know that while the government will pay most costs associated with a PCS move, there are some costs that may not be reimbursed, including temporary lodging or some travel expenses.

If you, or someone you know has received PCS orders, there are a few things you should do to begin the relocation process:
  • Contact your installation office. Typically located on base, they will be able to tell you what allowances the government will be providing for your move. Knowing this will help you to make the right decisions about how to best handle your relocation. You can also visit Military OneSource or Military INSTALLATIONS, for online resources and information that can help you plan your military move.
  • Do your research. Find out which relocation companies are assigned to your move. Generally, there are multiple resources due to rate filings. Once you know which relocation firms are available to you, and if you have a choice, ask for referrals from friends and family, contact your local Better Business Bureau, or check out websites such as Angi for ratings.
  • Schedule your PCS move. You should contact your preferred moving company as soon as possible to start scheduling your move to ensure resources are available to help you on your required relocation date.
Military families know that they can count on King Relocation & Logistics to ensure that their next PCS move goes as smoothly as possible. Our relocation services start with personal customer service coordinators who plan each move from start-to-finish.
